This morning I went to a Flames Rocketry Event. It was really fun! We got to build our own model rockets, and then listen to a talk about rockets and how they work. We also talked about NASA's Artemis Program, in which humanity will make a return to the Moon! The launch of Artemis 1 (an uncrewed flight test) will be 1 week from now, launching from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
After the talk ended (and the glue on our rockets had dried), we went to a nearby field to launch them. My model was named the ISS Devastator (after Darth Vader's personal Star Destroyer from A New Hope), and it probably had the best launch. The parachute stayed connected to the rest of the rocket (unlike some of the other ones), and it was the one that landed nearest to the launch site. Because of this, I got to launch a different model rocket: A model of Artemis 1. The scale of the model was 1:200, meaning it was 200 times smaller than the actual rocket.
To my delight, I got to launch my rocket a second time, along with my friend Patrick and one of the other kids. Both of our rockets performed just as well as they had the first time.
