The Senate
The Senate ruled the Republic. The Senate was made up of several senators that voted on laws, sentences, and other stuff. A man named Palpatine rose through the ranks of the Senate until he reached the rank of Supreme Chancellor, the head of the Senate.
The Separatists
The Separatists (or the Confederacy of Independent Systems) were a group that wanted independence from the Republic. Their leader was Count Dooku (Darth Tyranus).
A group called the Trade Federation joined the Separatists. The Trade Federation was a group of merchants. Their cargo ships were shaped like giant donuts. The Trade Federation secretly transformed their cargo ships into war ships. They supplied the Separatists with an army of droids. Whole Trade Federation ships could not land on planets, but the core ship could detach and go down on its own.

The Clone Army
The Republic's army was called the Clone Army, because its troops were all clones of one man, a bounty hunter named Jango Fett. For a decade on the planet Kamino, the Kaminoans, who were masters at cloning, were making a huge army for the Republic, under the orders of a mysterious Jedi called Sifo-Dyas (who soon turned out to be Count Dooku).
When Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi stumbled upon the cloning operation, the Prime Minister himself greeted Obi-Wan, thinking that he had come to inspect the clone army.
Clone troops wore a suit of white armour. The armour allows easy movement in battle, but is uncomfortable to sit in. At their waist, clone troopers wear a utility belt to hold spare magazines for their blasters and other equipment, including a grappling hook. Clone troopers are supplied with plasma guns of two types: DC-15 blasters and DC-15 rifles.

Vehicles
The Republic was in possession of a large number of incredible vehicles. Here are some of the most familiar ones.
Republic Assault Ship
Measuring over 700 m (2,297 ft) long, the Acclamator-class Republic Assault Ship was the Republic's primary troop carrier. It is armed with a large arsenal of weaponry, which includes turbolasers and torpedoes, and carries ground vehicles as well. Not only can this ship make ground landings, it is also capable of landing on water!
Republic Attack Cruiser
The Venator-class Star Destroyer is the Republic's most powerful capital ships, as well as the first example of the terrifying warships that would become a dreaded symbol of Imperial power. It is heavily armed, with a compliment of over 420 starfighters, 40 gunships, and several others. This ship requires an incredible 7,400 personnel to manage it.
Republic Gunship
The Republic Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry (or LAAT/i) is first deployed during the Battle of Geonosis, and becomes one of the most familiar Republic military vehicles during the Clone Wars. It can carry up to 30 clone troopers, and carries two speeder bikes, as well as having five clone gunners and a pilot.
AT-TE Walker
The All Terrain Tactical Enforcer is an early example of walker technology. The walker is both an assault ship and a transport, carrying up to 20 clone troopers. The walker's primary weapon is a large mass-driver cannon, operated by a clone trooper who is seated behind it, and exposed to enemy fire. It also has its own carrier (known as the Low Altitude Assault Transport/carrier, or LAAT/c), which places it on the battlefield and then makes a quick getaway.
