The Battle of Yavin

Year: 0

The Battle of Yavin was fought by the rebels and the Empire, with the rebels emerging victorious by destroying the first Death Star.

Astromech droid R2-D2 had delivered stolen plans of the Death Star battle station to the Rebel Alliance. After being studied, the Death Star was found to have one weakness. If a proton torpedo was fired into a ventilation shaft, hitting the reactor, it would set off a chain reaction that should destroy the Death Star. But there was one problem: The ventilation shaft was only about two meters wide. A pilot would have to be an expert marksman to get this bull's-eye (with help from a targeting computor).

While the Death Star was moving into position, 30 rebel starfighters made their way toward it. Their mission: Make the run through the trench and get the bull's-eye. TIE fighters attacked the rebel fleet, and gunners fired at them from the Death Star. But the rebel fighters were so small, they evaded the Death Star's turbolasers. Several pilots attempted the trench run, but TIE fighters picked them off one by one, or they missed the bull's-eye.

Then Luke Skywalker entered the trench with two other pilots, Wedge Antilles and Biggs Darklighter. Three TIE fighters came to pick them off. But the bad news was that one of the fighters was being piloted by Sith Lord Darth Vader. Biggs was killed, and Wedge was forces to retreat. Only Luke remained.

Just as Darth Vader was about to fire the final shot, Han Solo arrived in his ship, the Millennium Falcon. He damaged Darth Vader's TIE fighter, sending him spinning into space. Just then, the Death Star was in range of the rebel base on Yavin 4. It was preparing to fire. Luke fired his proton torpedoes. He didn't miss. Just as the Death Star was about to fire, it exploded. The Rebels were victorious.
