The coronavirus

In late 2019, a new sickness began to attack the world: the coronavirus (also known as COVID-19). It started in Wuhan, China, and has since spread across the face of the globe. The government is making many rules to protect us from COVID-19. These rules include: Wear a mask outside your property, wash your hands regularly, stay home as much as possible, stay six feet away from other people, and so on.

Some parts of the world are in lockdown, but others, such as where we are, are relatively okay. For young people, COVID-19 is only experienced as some sort of small flu. But for people in their 80s and 90s, the sickness can be deadly.

COVID-19 is spread very easily, so that is why no big gatherings or large celebrations are allowed. In China, during the early days of the virus, they didn't know how dangerous it was, so they didn't take any precautions. Hundreds of thousands of people died in China because they kept on with their big gatherings.

The scary thing is, this is the first ever appearance of COVID-19, so there is no cure! That is why we have to be very careful to not catch it. At this very moment, scientists are working on a cure to COVID-19.
