A long drive and four long flights

On July 31st, we got into our rental van and started the long drive to the Sydney Airport. The drive was to last longer than 9 hours, so we brought snacks (and a lot of them, too!). We stayed awake in the van for a while, had a few snacks, and then tried to go to sleep. Ava and Oliver fell asleep easily, but it took Elle and Thea a while to get to sleep. As for me, I didn't sleep at all, not a wink, during the entire drive! It was pretty annoying.

After a while, we made a stop to refuel and stretch our legs. It was very dark. Dad refuelled the van, and then we all went to pay for it. Mom and Dad got a cappuccino, some of us used the bathroom, and then we got back on the road. It got very foggy in some spots.

After a couple more pit stops, we arrived at our destination. We dropped off the van at a rental car drop off area, unloaded all the suitcases, and went to the road to get a cab. The cab drove us to the airport, and then we got off. We waited in the waiting room, checked in, went through security, and all the other stuff you'd have to do at the airport. Then we boarded.

Our flight left at noon on August 1st. I watched a lot of TV on the flight! After a while I fell asleep, woke up after a couple hours, watched some more TV, fell asleep again, and so on. The flight lasted 12 hours, and then we landed in San Francisco.

We collected our suitcases, waited in the waiting room (again!), and then boarded our next flight. This flight was only two hours long, but there was no TV😡. In two hours, we landed in Vancouver, Canada.

We collected our suitcases and went to stay in the Sandman Hotel for the night. While we were there, Grandpa, Grandma, and my uncle Evan came to say hi and chat. They stayed for a couple of hours, and then left. After that, we had dinner and went to bed.

We got up bright and early the next morning (3:15, to be precise), had a breakfast of muffins, and drove to the airport. When we arrived, we waited in the waiting room (for the third time!), handed in our suitcases, and boarded the flight. The frustrating thing was, we had to go right back to San Francisco! So this flight was two hours long. Still no TV😡.

When we arrived in San Francisco, we collected our suitcases, waited in the waiting room (I can't keep track of all the waiting rooms!!!!!!!), and boarded our next flight. This flight was five hours long, and there was still no TV😖😖😡😡!! This was to be our last flight (what a relief!😌), and its destination was Washington, D.C.

After five hours, we arrived in Washington, D.C. Owen Vyner met us (he's the father of Charlie and Laura, our best friends. They moved to America a couple of years ago.) to help with the suitcases. We rented a van and drove to the town that our rented house is in, Front Royal. Owen brought the suitcases. When we arrived here, we had dinner and went straight to bed.

  1. Sounds like a long day, a lot of waiting rooms and not enough TVs!
