You're alive because ice is weird
Have you ever heard of the Titanic? It was a huge ship, the biggest of its time, that struck an iceberg and sunk on its maiden voyage en route to New York. I've written a few posts about the Titanic. Have you ever thought about what would happen if ice didn't float? I bet you haven't, so I'm going to tell you what would happen. If ice didn't float, all of it would sink to the bottom of oceans, lakes, rivers, and other bodies of water. The ice would pile up in time, until the Earth would be nothing but a lifeless ball of ice. So, if ice didn't float, you would not exist. Pretty scary, right? For the passengers of the Titanic, the fact that ice floats was disastrous, but for us, it is very lucky.
